This guide will help you merge files/folders based on the name and last modified date. In the example below, we are copying an out-of-sync folder located in the previous Google Drive sync tool and merging it with the new business-grade Google Drive FileStream.
Things needed:
- Ultracopier Free Mac | download
Getting Started:
- Download Ultracopier Free Mac version from the official website and install it on your macOS device.
- Once the tool is installed, open two finder windows
- The old files to the left and Google File Stream's My Drive to the right.
- The old files to the left and Google File Stream's My Drive to the right.
- In File Stream, select the folder you will be merging and mark it available for offline use.
IMPORTANT: Make sure the folder has completely synced before moving to the next step. You will notice a green checkmark next to the folder name when the sync is complete. - Next, launch Ultracopier from the Applications folder.
- A diskette icon will show in the top navigation bar of your Mac. Click the diskette and select Copy.
- A Finder window will appear, prompting you to select the Source destination. Navigate to the out-of-sync folder and select the folder to be merged and click Open.
- Next, another Finder window will open, prompting you to select the Destination folder.
IMPORTANT: Make sure to select the Parent folder and not to the same-name folder (i.e. in the example above, you would select My Drive and click Open, rather than selecting the Projects folder in the Destination location). - In the next prompt window, select Merge as the folder action.
- It will scan the Source folder for duplicate files. Select the down arrow next to Overwrite to select the option to Overwrite if newer.
- Wait for the process to finish. After it is done, navigate to the destination folder and mark it as available Online only and proceed to the next folder to migrate.
Note: If you would like to use Spotlight indexing with Google Drive FileStream, please leave the folders marked as Available offline. (i.e. ignore step 10)
Repeat steps from 1-10 again until all folders have been merged.
