1. Create a Label
Tip: Your labels only show in your inbox, not your recipient’s inbox.
Method 1

On your computer, go to Gmail.

On the left, scroll down, then click
.

Click + Create new label.

Name your label.
-
Click Create.
Method 2

On your computer, go to Gmail.
-
Right-click any email.
-
Hover over Label.
-
Click Create new.

Name your label.

Click Create.

On your computer, go to Gmail.
- Select any email by clicking the box and adding a checkmark.
- Underneath the search bar, in the row of icons, click the Labels icon.
- Click Create new.

Name your label.

Click Create.
2. Edit & delete labels
Edit a label

On your computer, go to Gmail.
-
On the left side of the page, move to the label's name.

Click the
> Edit.

Edit your label.
Delete a label

On your computer, go to Gmail.

On the left side of the page, hover over the label's name.

Click the
> Remove label.
3. Add a label
Label messages in your inbox
-
On your computer, go to Gmail.
-
Select the messages you want to have the labels added to.

At the top, click Labels icon.
-
Select a label, or create a new one.
Label a message you're writing

On your computer, go to Gmail.
-
Click Compose.
-
In the bottom right, click
.

Click Label, then select labels you want to add.

Click Apply.
Move a message to another label
-
On your computer, go to Gmail.
-
Select the message you want to label.
-
At the top, click Labels icon.
-
Uncheck the current label, then select a new one.

Click Apply.
4. Show or hide labels

Choose whether or not your labels show up in the Menu list to the left of your inbox.

On your computer, go to Gmail.

At the top right, click Settings.
-
Click the "Labels" tab.
-
Make your changes.
5. Edit a Label Color

In the left sidebar of Gmail, hover over the label you wish to edit, then click the drop-down arrow.

Under the drop-down menu, select "Label color." A color palette should appear.

From the color palette, click the color that you would like to apply to your label. For more color options or to change label text color, click "Add custom color."
